Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS FLOOR GROUTING?

Floor grouting is the process of filling gaps between porcelain or ceramic tiles on the floor. It keeps tiles firmly in place. Grout King offers top-quality floor grouting services for residential and commercial properties, apartments, and villas to make your floors safe and durable.

IS GROUT BETTER THAN CONCRETE?

Grout and concrete have completely different jobs. Grout is used for filling tile gaps, while concrete is used for building structures. If you want to upgrade the filling between floor or wall tiles in your home, grout is the way to do it. It provides a stronger finish and makes sure your tiles are as strong as possible, with a smooth finish. Grout King ensures the best grout for your tiles.

HOW DO YOU DO GROUTING?

Grouting involves mixing grout and pressing it into tile gaps. Our grouting lasts for years when properly applied. Grout King handles the whole process for residential and commercial properties, making sure your tiles are properly grouted and secure.

WHY IS GROUTING NECESSARY?

Grouting secures tiles and keeps dirt and water out. Without it, tiles may shift or crack. Grout King ensures your tiles stay strong and protected with professional grouting services.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DON’T GROUT?

Without grouting, water and dirt can seep beneath porcelain and ceramic tiles, causing damage. Grout King helps prevent this by grouting your tiles properly.

WHAT ARE THE THREE TYRES OF GROUT?

There are three main types of grout, each with different properties:

Cementitious Grout: This is the cheapest option, but cementitious grout is porous by nature. This means it absorbs stains and is not waterproof, which can lead to cracking and moisture damage. We use it mainly for interior walls only, avoiding bathrooms.

Epoxy Grout: This is the premium choice. It is 100% waterproof, non-porous, and completely stain and mould-resistant. It is very durable and easy to clean—just wipe it down! It is ideal for all wet areas like showers and bathrooms.

Unsanded Grout: This type is simply used when the gaps between your tiles are very narrow and sand particles won’t fit.

At Grout King, we usually recommend epoxy grout for the best protection and longest life, especially in wet areas.

IS EPOXY GROUT BETTER THAN REGULAR GROUT?

Epoxy grout is generally better than regular grout for areas exposed to moisture because it’s 100% waterproof and more durable. It’s ideal for bathrooms and kitchens, but it’s also harder to work with and more expensive than regular grout.

CAN I PUT EPOXY GROUT OVER OLD GROUT?

It’s not recommended at all to put epoxy grout over existing grout. If old grout isn’t fully removed before applying epoxy, the grouting will have to be redone to ensure epoxy grout is applied evenly. Old grout must be removed first for proper bonding and a strong, smooth finish.

HOW MUCH DOES GROUTING WORK COST?

The cost of grouting in Dubai depends on the apartment size and tile condition. Grout King offers average prices, prices are around AED 4,850 for a 1 BHK, AED 5,700 for a 2 BHK, and AED 6,500 for a 3 BHK. These estimates include living areas, the kitchen, and bedroom floors, but exclude bathrooms. Since every project is different, the final cost is confirmed after we either visit the property or review photos/videos of the tiles.

IS IT CHEAPER TO REGROUT OR RETILE?

Regrouting is generally cheaper than retile because it involves only replacing the grout, not the tiles themselves. However, if the tiles are damaged or outdated, retile may be a better option in the long run.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO HAVE SOMEONE CLEAN GROUT?

The cost of professional grout cleaning usually depends on the size of the area and the condition of the tile and grout. In Dubai, you can expect prices for apartments, which often work out to an estimated AED 1,500–3,000, depending on the number of rooms and how much buildup needs to be removed. The final price is confirmed after inspection or reviewing photos/videos, so you get a quote tailored to your specific space.

HOW MUCH DOES 2KG GROUT COVERAGE COST?

A 2kg pack of grout generally covers 1.5 to 2 square meters, depending on the size and width of the tile joints. In Dubai, the cost of a 2kg grout pack typically ranges from AED 15 to AED 30, depending on the brand and type (standard, waterproof, or epoxy). For an exact price, it’s best to confirm with the supplier or, based on the specific grout type you choose.

HOW TO DO REGROUTING?

To regrout:
1: Remove old grout using a grout saw or scraper
2: Clean the tile surface thoroughly
3: Mix new grout according to instructions (Note: Mixing and applying epoxy grout is more difficult than cementitious grout, and if not done properly, it can cause potential problems).
4: Apply grout using a float, pressing into joints
5: Remove excess grout with a damp sponge and smooth lines
6: Allow to set and cure as directed.

CAN YOU PUT NEW GROUT OVER OLD GROUT?

It’s not recommended at all to put new grout over old grout. Old grout should be removed to ensure the new grout adheres properly and lasts longer.

DOES GROUT NEED TO BE CLEANED?

Yes, grout does need to be cleaned regularly. Dirt, mold, and stains can accumulate in grout lines, making it look dirty. Cleaning helps maintain its appearance and prevents damage.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO CLEAN GROUT?

Normal household cleaning supplies are best to use. Never use cleaning supplies containing acid, as acids can damage grout. To remove dirt on top of grout, use a kitchen sponge to absorb it. For tough stains, a steam cleaner can also help.

WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF GROUT?

Grout keeps your tiles stable, prevents chipping, and stops water and dirt from getting underneath them. Grout King offers expert grouting and re-grouting services for all residential and commercial properties, including apartments and villas.

CAN I PUT TILE WITHOUT GROUT?

No, it’s not recommended. Without grout, water can get beneath the tiles, causing mould, loose tiles, and structural damage. The gaps would also collect dirt and look unfinished. Grout King offers professional tile grouting services for apartments, villas, and commercial spaces to ensure your tiling is done properly from the start.

WHAT MATERIAL IS USED FOR GROUTING?

Grout is typically made from cement, water, and sand for wider gaps. For finer joints, epoxy or unsanded cement grout is used. The type depends on where it’s being applied and the size of the gaps. Grout King uses high-quality grouting materials suitable for Dubai’s climate, whether for your home or business premises.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF GROUT?

Grout prevents water damage, keeps tiles firmly in place, stops dirt buildup between tiles, and improves the overall appearance of tiled surfaces. It also makes cleaning easier and extends the life of your tiling. Grout King ensures your grouting is done correctly for long-lasting results in any property type.

HOW TO SEAL GROUT PERMANENTLY?

No sealer lasts forever, as it wears down over time. However, using a high-quality penetrating sealer offers the longest-lasting protection. Grout King uses professional products for superior sealing.

WHAT ARE THE STAGES OF GROUTING?

First, tiles are laid and allowed to set. Then grout is mixed and applied into the joints using a float. Excess grout is wiped away before it dries. Once cured, standard grout is sealed for protection. Grout King handles all stages professionally for residential and commercial clients throughout Dubai.

IS IT REALLY NECESSARY TO SEAL GROUT?

Yes, it is strongly advised. Sealing stops stains, makes cleaning easier, and protects the grout from moisture damage. Grout King provides sealing services for your home or business.

HOW OFTEN DOES GROUT NEED TO BE RESEALED?

Generally every 1-2 years, depending on the area and foot traffic. Bathrooms and high-traffic commercial spaces may need resealing more frequently. Grout King offers resealing services for both residential and commercial properties in Dubai.

WHAT CAN I PUT ON GROUT TO SEAL IT?

Grout should be sealed with a protective grout sealer to keep out moisture, stains, and dirt. The type of sealer used depends on the grout and where it’s applied — for example, bathroom grout needs different protection than kitchen or outdoor grout. At Grout King, we handle the sealing process professionally to make sure your grout stays clean, durable, and protected for longer.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO SEAL GROUT?

The cost depends on the size of the area and the condition of the grout. Please contact Grout King for a tailored quote for your apartment, villa, or commercial space.

IS IT WORTH TO REGROUTING TILES?

Absolutely. Regrouting is much cheaper than replacing tiles and can make your surfaces look brand new. Regrouting removes old, stained, or cracked material and replaces it, making your tiled area look completely new. Regrouting is recommended when the existing grout is cracked, stained, or deteriorating.

CAN YOU GROUT OUTDOOR SLABS?

Yes, you must! Using tile slabs outside is a growing trend, and grouting them creates a protective barrier against water and dust, ensuring structural stability. Grout King uses specialised, weather-resistant compounds for the best long-term results.

CAN YOU REPAIR DAMAGED GROUT?

Yes, damaged grout can be repaired by removing the old grout and applying fresh material. Grout King provides professional grout repair and re-grouting services for residential and commercial properties across Dubai.

HOW TO FIX MISSING GROUT IN SHOWER?

Missing grout in a shower can’t be fixed with small touch-ups—tiles need to be fully regrouted to ensure a proper, water-tight seal. Grout King specialises in professional re-grouting to seal your shower properly and prevent structural damage.

CAN I USE REGULAR GROUT OUTSIDE?

No. Regular grout isn’t designed to withstand outdoor conditions like sunlight, rain, and temperature changes, which can cause it to crack and fail. For lasting results, you need weather-resistant grout specifically formulated for exterior use. Grout King can recommend and apply the right grout type for your outdoor tiles.

DOES GROUT PENS REALLY WORK?

Grout pens offer temporary cosmetic fixes but don’t solve underlying issues. For lasting results, Grout King provides professional grout cleaning and sealing services across Dubai and the UAE.

CAN I USE SHOWER WITHOUT GROUTING TILE?

No, you must have intact grout between shower tiles. Without it, water will easily leak into the walls and cause severe water damage to your property.

CAN GROUT BE RESTORED?

Yes, most dirty or stained grout can be fully restored through our professional deep grout cleaning. For badly damaged grout in your residential or commercial property, we recommend complete re-grouting.

HOW TO BRING GROUT BACK TO LIFE?

The best way is a deep professional clean to remove all ingrained dirt, followed by applying a high-quality sealer. Grout King offers these expert grout cleaning and sealing services.

HOW LONG SHOULD YOU WAIT BEFORE WALKING ON NEWLY GROUTED FLOORS?

Wait at least 24 hours before walking on newly grouted floors. For best results and to avoid damage, wait 48 hours for full curing. Grout King ensures proper curing times and provides expert advice for all flooring projects across Dubai and the UAE.

CAN YOU APPLY GROUT IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT?

Yes, you can! In Dubai, sunlight is almost always present indoors and outdoors. What really matters is the temperature, as high temperatures combined with direct sunlight can cause grout to dry too quickly, leading to cracking or uneven colour. Grout King’s expert team ensures grouting is always done under the right temperature conditions for perfect results every time.

DO YOU NEED SPACERS WHEN REGROUTING EXISTING TILES?

No, spacers aren’t needed when regrouting existing tiles since the gaps are already established. Simply remove old grout and fill the existing spaces with fresh grout. Grout King specialises in professional regrouting services for homes, villas, and commercial properties throughout the UAE.

CAN YOU GROUT VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL SURFACES WITH THE SAME TECHNIQUE?

Yes, the technique is the same—apply grout at 45 degrees using a float. Vertical surfaces need slightly firmer pressure to prevent sliding. Grout King’s skilled technicians handle all surfaces expertly, from floors to walls, ensuring flawless results.

WHAT IS THE MINIMUM DEPTH NEEDED FOR GROUT TO HOLD PROPERLY?

Grout needs a minimum depth of at least two-thirds the tile thickness, typically 3-4mm. Shallow grout will crack and fail over time. Grout King ensures proper depth and application techniques for long-lasting, durable grout that protects your tiles.

DOES GROUT GET HARDER OVER TIME OR STAY THE SAME?

Yes, grout continues hardening over time, reaching most of its strength within 24-72 hours. It achieves full strength after approximately 28 days. Grout King uses premium quality grout materials that cure properly and provide maximum strength and durability.

CAN YOU MAKE GROUT WATERPROOF BY ADDING ADDITIVES?

Yes, waterproofing additives significantly improve grout’s water resistance and reduce the need for sealing. However, epoxy grout remains the best option for complete waterproofing in wet areas, as it’s inherently waterproof due to its structure. Grout King recommends and installs 100% waterproof epoxy grout for all bathrooms, showers, and wet areas.

WHAT MAKES GROUT CRACK-RESISTANT?

Proper mixing ratios, correct application depth, using the right grout type for gap size, and allowing proper curing time all contribute to crack resistance. Epoxy grout offers superior crack resistance compared to standard grout. Grout King’s professional installation ensures crack-free, long-lasting grout for your residential or commercial property.

IS THERE A GROUT THAT CHANGES COLOUR WHEN WET?

Yes, most grouts darken slightly when wet. With cementitious grout, the colour change is more noticeable, while epoxy grout only changes very subtly. Both return to their normal colour when fully dry — this is completely normal. Grout King offers epoxy grouting solutions for a more consistent colour appearance in all conditions

CAN GROUT WITHSTAND FREEZING TEMPERATURES?

Properly cured grout can handle freezing temperatures, but it must cure fully first (24-48 hours minimum). Exposure to freezing before curing causes permanent damage and weakness. Grout King uses weather-resistant grout formulations suitable for Dubai’s climate and outdoor applications.

SHOULD GROUT BE LIGHTER OR DARKER THAN YOUR TILES?

It depends on your preference—lighter grout creates a seamless look whilst darker grout adds definition and hides dirt better. Match grout to tile colour for a modern, cohesive appearance. Grout King helps you choose the perfect grout colour to complement your tiles and design vision.

CAN YOU MATCH GROUT TO TILE COLOUR PERFECTLY?

You can get very close, but perfect matching is difficult as grout and tile are different materials that age differently. Always test samples on spare tiles before deciding. Grout King offers colour consultation and samples to help you achieve the best possible match for your project.

WHY DOES GROUT LOOK PATCHY OR UNEVEN IN COLOUR?

Patchy grout results from improper mixing, excess water during application or cleanup, inconsistent drying conditions, or efflorescence (salt deposits). Proper technique and consistent water use prevent this issue. Grout King’s expert application ensures uniform, consistent grout colour throughout your entire installation.

DOES GROUT COLOUR AFFECT HOW HOT TILES GET IN THE SUN?

Yes, darker grout absorbs more heat whilst lighter grout stays cooler. However, the tile itself has a much bigger impact on temperature than the grout colour. Grout King can advise on the best grout colour choices for outdoor areas exposed to Dubai’s intense sunlight.

CAN YOU FIX THE GROUT THAT WAS MIXED WITH TOO MUCH WATER?

If still wet, add more dry grout powder to correct the consistency. Once applied and cured, weak grout from excess water cannot be fixed—it must be removed and replaced. Grout King ensures precise mixing and proper application from the start, eliminating these issues entirely.

WHAT CAUSES WHITE RESIDUE ON GROUT AFTER CLEANING?

White residue is typically efflorescence (salt deposits) caused by excess moisture or grout haze from incomplete cleaning. Use a pH-neutral cleaner to remove it safely, avoiding tile and grout damage. Grout King offers professional grout cleaning services to restore your grout’s original appearance safely and effectively.

CAN GROUT BOND TO PAINTED SURFACES?

No, grout cannot properly bond to painted surfaces as paint creates a barrier. Paint must be completely removed or a suitable primer applied for grout to adhere properly. Grout King ensures proper surface preparation for all grouting projects, guaranteeing strong, lasting bonds.

WHY IS MY GROUT SOFT AND NOT HARDENING?

Soft grout is usually caused by too much water in the mix, improper mixing, or expired grout powder. Unfortunately, soft grout must be completely removed and replaced—it cannot be fixed. Grout King uses only fresh, premium materials with expert mixing techniques for properly cured, hard-wearing grout.

CAN YOU GROUT MOSAIC TILES WITH TINY GAPS?

Yes, use unsanded grout for gaps narrower than 3mm as it has a finer texture. Work the grout carefully into all gaps using a float at an angle for complete coverage. Grout King has extensive experience with intricate mosaic installations across Dubai, ensuring flawless results.

SHOULD SHOWER NICHES BE GROUTED DIFFERENTLY FROM SHOWER FLOORS?

Use the same technique and waterproof grout (ideally epoxy) throughout the shower including niches. Ensure grout lines align with surrounding tiles for a professional, seamless finish. Grout King specialises in complete shower grouting with 100% waterproof epoxy for niches, floors, and walls.
